Eastern White Cedar
Eastern White Cedar shingles
With fewer tannins than their Western Red Cedar counterparts, the magic of Eastern White Cedar shingles is their beautiful flat grain and ability to absorb stain for a truly elegant look.
This product is exceptional for sidewalls, gables and any other architectural accent, and is often chosen by architects and high-end home builders.

Shingle options
R&R shingles
Eastern White Cedar shingles come rebutted and rejointed for ease of installation. This means that the ends and the sides of the shingle are milled to be consistent and even.
Unlike their Western Red Cedar cousins, Eastern White shingles are only acceptable for use as a sidewall material, not a roofing product.
Grades
The quality of Maibec’s shingles is exceptional. Eastern White shingles have a flat grain and are graded differently than other species:
Grade A, called Nantucket — a premium, extra-clear grade, exclusively for fancy cut shingles
Grade AB, called Chatham — an excellent industry standard grade product, which has a clear face up to 6”
Grade C, called Bar Harbor — a more rustic look, great for a starter course
Green shingles
Some customers prefer a green product that is not kiln-dried, and let their cedar weather naturally to a purplish gray. This is a popular choice in some coastal markets where the high moisture content year-round weathers them consistently.
Exposure
16” Eastern White shingles are installed at a 5” exposure. All shingles must be installed according to Maibec’s guidelines to ensure a long-lasting product. In addition, Maibec recommends adding 3% to a coverage calculation to ensure full coverage and absorb any waste.
Stain and colors
All Eastern White cedar shingles are available with factory-applied solid or semi-transparent colors. Call us today for more information on getting the perfect match for your project.
You can also request sample colors or send in a sample for a perfect color match. All stains are factory applied to all sides for maximum beauty and longevity.
